We’re proud to announce that Two Edge Jiu Jitsu students Owen and Mason brought home GOLD this past weekend at the Jiu Jitsu World League “Worlds” competition!

Both athletes showcased incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship as they battled their way to the top of their divisions. Their hard work on the mats paid off in a big way, and we couldn’t be prouder of their performance.

Congratulations, Owen and Mason! Your Edge Jiu Jitsu family is cheering you on every step of the way.

Top 3 Reasons Martial Arts Should be Your Choice for After School Activities

Self discipline, an essential component of martial arts training at The Edge, has been shown to better predict academic performance then IQ.

Production of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) a protein which has been called “Miracle-Gro for the brain” is stimulated by exercise, and martial arts is a vigorous workout.

Martial arts have been shown to improve working memory. Working memory allows the brain to remember information short term and then pass it onto long term memory, which is vital for academic success.

Self control – Self regulation – Overcoming obstacles – Creativity

According to educators, pre-schoolers who learn these skills have the foundation for success in school and learn to develop what is called academic tenacity.  At The Edge Martial Arts we believe that even very young children can master progressively more difficult challenges and through that process learn tenacity.  While learning martial arts, self defense, and acrobatic techniques, children develop balance and motor skills, learn to listen and follow directions, and improve their memory and focus.  Through games and challenges they are encouraged to think creatively, finding their own way to overcome obstacles.  To learn more about academic tenacity and preschoolers, we have provided an article for you:
